Blockchain technology and digitalization has been identified as significantly decreasing transaction costs. Through seeing blockchain as an institutional technology, i.e. a new market coordination form, the project explores how the pending decrease in transaction costs leads to the prevailing theory of the firm becoming obsolete.

Expected impact

The basis for a new theory of the firm, informed through information systems research.

Theoretical perspectives

Transaction cost economics, general equilibrium theory, institutional technology
